What is a Long-Term Acute Care Hospital?

Occasionally, patients in the hospital have a need for longer hospital stays due to their illness, multiple injuries, pulmonary or medical complications. The unique medical needs of these types of patients require more intensive, focused hospital care combined with more aggressive therapy than a traditional hospital may be able to provide.

Think of us as the next step between a hospital intensive care unit and rehabilitation: Critical Care nursing and respiratory services combined with aggressive therapy.

What is the difference between Regency Hospital and a traditional hospital?

The biggest difference is the specialization. It's all we do. All resources are focused on the patient, giving them what they need when they need it. We are able to combine the expertise of a nationally recognized hospital system with the personalized attention of a smaller setting.

Our patients tend to be very ill with multiple medical issues who need to be in a hospital level of care for extended periods, usually 20-30 days. Because of this length of stay, we know that we have the time to set both short-term and long-term goals. At Regency Hospital, we take a patient-centered team approach, involving the family, the physicians, and all departments in making those plans. In contrast, a traditional hospital is designed to care for patients 3-5 days, making it difficult - if not impossible - to focus on the long term.

We believe that providing early and aggressive care and providing the patient with what they need, when they need it is the best approach when caring for those with life changing illness or catastrophic injury.
